Camp Futures FAQs

Q: Why was this taskforce formed?
A: Because of the ongoing financial and physical concerns of our church camps. Some of our buildings are deteriorating, and even if they were brand new our current income is not enough to support the programs we have.

Q: Who formed the Camp Futures Taskforce?
A: Executive Committee of the Christian Church of Kentucky

Q: Who is on the taskforce?
A: Mike Gatton, Louisville
Debbie Enyart, Henderson
Betty Jagoe, Owensboro
Lee Yates, Lawrenceburg
Mike Puckett, Louisville
Lori Harper, Hopkinsville

Q: What is the responsibility of the Camp Futures Taskforce?
A: Design and facilitate a process of prayerful assessment involving Christian Church in Kentucky and its local congregations in order to address the operational and viability issues of Camp Kum-Ba-Ya and Camp WaKon’Da-Ho.

Q: Is consideration being given to eliminating Outdoor Ministry?
A: No, Outdoor ministry is vital to our ministry as a Region.

Q: Is consideration being given to closing one or both of our camps?
A: The Taskforce was called to guide us through the process of decision making.
No decision has been made. No option has been eliminated. We don’t know.

Q: Is there a timeline for the process?
A: The process should be in place by November 2010. A report on the execution of the process will be made to the Regional Board in November of 2011, with a potential recommendation of a called Regional Assembly for early 2012.

Q: How do I express my concerns or pose questions?
A: You may share your thoughts and follow the process on-line following the Camp Futures Taskforce link from the Christian Church of Kentucky web site (www.ccinky.net). You may also speak to members of the taskforce personally. Their numbers are available through the Regional office or West Area office.

Q: Where is God in this process?
A: God is present in the way we share and listen. God is present in our creativity and problem solving. God is present in the way we live as Region in the midst of this process.

Q: What is asked of me in this process?
A: We ask that you keep the Camp Futures Task Force, Outdoor Ministry and the Christian Church in Kentucky in your prayers.
